Care guide

Emergency department or OPD?

Use emergency care for severe, sudden or rapidly worsening symptoms. Use an appointment for stable concerns that can safely wait.

Do not wait in an emergency

Call 112 or the hospital emergency desk for severe breathing difficulty, chest pain, heavy bleeding, loss of consciousness, major injury or sudden stroke symptoms.

Use the OPD for planned care

An outpatient appointment is suited to stable symptoms, follow-up, routine review and planned referrals. If you are unsure and symptoms are worsening, call for urgent advice.
